CLERA WINDOWS + DOORS · VINYL WINDOWS GUIDE
There are several clear signs that your windows have reached the end of their useful life. If you are experiencing two or more of these issues, replacement is likely more cost-effective than repair.
1. Drafts and air infiltration
If you can feel cold air near a closed window, the seal or weatherstripping has failed. This drives up heating costs and reduces comfort.
2. Condensation between the glass panes
Fogging or moisture between double or triple-pane glass means the insulating seal has broken. The window's energy performance is permanently compromised and cannot be repaired — only replaced.
3. Difficulty opening, closing, or locking
Windows that stick, jam, or no longer lock properly are a security and safety concern, and often indicate frame warping or hardware failure.
4. Visible frame damage
Cracking, rotting, warping, or soft spots in the frame allow water infiltration and signal structural failure.
5. Rising energy bills
If your heating or cooling costs have increased without explanation, failing windows may be the culprit. Old or degraded windows are a major source of energy loss in Canadian homes.
6. Excessive outside noise
Modern double or triple-pane windows provide meaningful sound attenuation. If street noise seems louder than it used to, your windows may have lost their seal or lack adequate glazing.
